I get it, Andrew Tate is a disgusting, horrible, human being. The following ain't gonna be about that. Nor is it going to be me defending such a person.
I'm walking myself through some thoughts. Out loud. And with y'all.
I don't think I have ever really liked, BDE or SDE. The former is considered positive in most cases, the latter is not. Yeah, the way in which Greta used it could be argued that it is speaking more to his attitude and behavior rather than his physical body part. And it has been argued that is the case.
Then why not point out his attitude and behavior? Plenty of words to "burn" people with. Many that would fit within a Twitter character limit.
I get the reference in social psychological terms, the way in which SDE is to speaking to toxic masculinity.
Again, whole lot of words in the world one could use to point out toxic masculinity.
I ain't getting into no argument over whether Greta was right to use the term, I argue that its usage was well within Greta's right to do so...just as it is appropriate for those to exercise their unease and offense at Greta doing so.
Why is worth attached to our body parts? There are those with small dicks who exude what many feel to be BDE. And those with big dicks who are the personification of toxicity.
I am failing to comprehend the arguments that state that it isn’t about penis size but more about toxic masculinity but penis size is literally mentioned! The type of energy utilized and espoused is directly correlated with one’s size. Which also makes little sense to me.
So how does one argue that this is not related to penis size?
I always took it to mean that the person exuded the energy of someone who was overly concerned that they had a small dick and was trying to compensate for it- whether they, objectively speaking, had a small one or not.
Still, I have tried to excise it from my vocabulary, as people I love in my life who have penises have expressed anxiety over the subject.
I agree with you, it's definitely talking about size of body parts, and even though I get that it is supposed to be talk about the "energy" of people, it's based on the assumption that people with big body parts will be casually confident and people with small body parts will believe themselves less than and strive for approval/attention, which is definitely perpetuating the idea that some sizes of body parts are better than others. I have experienced enough of that garbage regarding breast size myself so I am not going to perpetuate the BDE and SDE tropes, though neither will I scold Greta Thunberg for using it.
